God’s Ten Rules

God’s Ten Rules

Q: Where was Moses when he received the Ten Commandments?

  • a. Mount Sinai
  • b. Mount Moriah
  • c. Mount Everest

God was making a new nation of his chosen people, and he had some laws that would help the Israelites live the way they should. As the Israelites followed these rules, they would become more holy. There were many laws given, but God gave Moses tablets with 10 special ones we call the “Ten Commandments” written on them.

The first law God gave them was “You must not have any other god but me.” The Israelites had just come from Egypt, a land with many gods. The Egyptians worshiped several false gods in hopes of being blessed or prosperous in many areas of life.

The first four commandments of God’s ten special rules talk about a person’s relationship with God. The next six talk about a person’s relationship with other people.

Here is what they say to us today:

  1. Only worship God.
  2. Don’t let anyone or anything take God’s place.
  3. Do not use God’s name as a swear word.
  4. One day of the week should be set apart to worship God.
  5. Respect your parents.
  6. Do not kill another person.
  7. Be faithful to your spouse when you marry.
  8. Do not take something that belongs to someone else.
  9. Do not lie about anyone or anything.
  10. Do not want for yourself what others have.

For You

Although these rules were given to Moses on Mount Sinai for the Israelites, they are still good rules for today. How are you doing with obeying them? Which rules do you need to work on?

Answer: a

The LORD came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain.   Exodus 19:20
