God’s Promises

Q: God placed the rainbow in the sky to

• a. add color to the new world.
• b. be a memorial for all the animals who died.
• c. be a sign of his promise never to flood the entire earth again.

God gives many promises in the Bible. God promised as far back as Adam and Eve that he’d send a Savior. God promised Abraham and Sarah they would have a son in their old age. God promised he’d lead his people out of slavery in Egypt. God promised David his kingdom would be established forever. These are only a few examples of God’s promises to people in the Bible.

Did you know God has given you promises too? God promises you

• a room in heaven (see John 14:1-3);
• new strength when you trust in him (see Isaiah 40:31);
• his presence all the time (see Hebrews 13:5);
• peace when you leave your problems with him (see Philippians 4:6-7);
• forgiveness when you confess your sins (see 1 John 1:9); and
• an escape from temptation (see 1 Corinthians 10:13).

Can you think of more promises God has given you? There are hundreds in the Bible. God gave Noah a promise too. He promised he would never again destroy the world with a flood. God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of that promise.

Sometimes friends make promises without thinking. They might promise to come to your house or to call you. They may promise to lend you a movie or help you with your history report. While these promises may be made with good intentions, they are often broken.

This isn’t true with God. Read 2 Samuel 22:31: “God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.” Isn’t that a good verse to remember? Why not memorize it today?
