Goal for the New Year: Share Your Faith

Q: If someone asks you about your faith, what should you do?

• a. invite that person to church
• b. give him or her a Bible
• c. always be ready to explain it

The early believers were quick to share their faith with others, but they didn’t all do it the same way. Peter and Paul were outgoing. They both spoke in front of large groups and also confronted people face-to-face. They didn’t back down.

Andrew, on the other hand, was less direct but no less sincere in sharing his faith.

Andrew brought people to Jesus one by one. He brought his own brother Peter to Jesus, and he brought the boy with the lunch that Jesus used to feed the 5,000 (see the September 21 devotion).

The Samaritan woman whom Jesus met by the well quickly went and told her friends and family about the things Jesus had done and said (see the September 2 devotion). They followed her to the well to meet Jesus for themselves.

Dorcas shared God’s love through the sewing she did for widows and the poor (see the October 30 devotion). She shared her faith through her good deeds.

These are all good ways to share your faith with others. Like Peter and Paul, you can spread the gospel: share verses from the Bible such as John 3:16 and Romans 6:23 that explain that Jesus died for our sins, rose again, and offers salvation to anyone who asks. Or like the Samaritan woman, you can tell how you met Jesus and how he changed your life. Or like Dorcas, you can get involved in ministries that reach out to others and share God’s love that way.

There are many ways to share your faith, and you may be more comfortable with some than others. The important thing is that you share the Good News with as many people as you can no matter how you choose to do it.
