Facing Your Giants

The Israelites faced a big problem: King Og and his well-trained army. King Og was a giant, and the Israelites weren’t sure they were up for the task of conquering his army and his 60 towns, which had high walls and gates.

The Israelites had the advantage, though—God was on their side. God told them, “Do not be afraid of him, for I have given you victory over Og and his entire army.”

The Israelites probably didn’t stand a chance on their own, but God handed the king and his army over to them. Not one enemy remained, and all the towns were conquered. This is just one example of a time when God stepped in and gave his people the victory.

God still does that today. There may be giants in your life that seem unconquerable—a PE teacher who is determined to make your life miserable, math story problems that don’t make sense to you, or a group of kids who’ve chosen to shun you. On your own these problems are too big, but with God you can handle them.

You may not be able to fix every problem, but God can help you have peace and strength during these situations. God can also give you the wisdom to know how to get help.

Don’t let the giants in your life defeat you. God can give you the victory just as he did for the Israelites when they faced King Og and his tough army.

If you have a problem that feels as unconquerable as a giant in your life, ask God to show you what to do. Ask God to give you the victory over the problem and take the steps you need to in order to defeat it.
