Before Jeremiah was even born, God already had a plan for him in place. Jeremiah didn’t wander aimlessly through life wondering what to do, because he had purpose. God had chosen him to be a prophet.

For 40 years Jeremiah spoke to the people of Judah on God’s behalf, but no one listened. Jeremiah didn’t give up because he knew this was the job he was called to do. He stood firm and declared God’s message to the people over and over.

Knowing God had a purpose for his life got Jeremiah through some tough times. Jeremiah was thrown in prison and at another time thrown into a well where he sank into the mud at the bottom. He was forced to go to Egypt, and he was rejected by his family, neighbors, friends, and kings. Often Jeremiah stood alone for what was right.

By the world’s standards, Jeremiah was a total failure. But he was successful in God’s eyes because he knew his calling, and he lived with purpose.

God has a plan for your life too. When you’re older he may call you to be a teacher, doctor, athlete, musician, or electrician. He will bring you in contact with the people he wants you to reach. You don’t have to wait until you’re older to have purpose, though. You can live with purpose today by doing the best you can at your schoolwork, chores, and relationships while keeping your eyes open for the opportunities God brings your way.

Be faithful in the things God has for you today. Schoolwork and chores may not seem that important, but they are your training ground for the things God has for you later.
