Q: How many days did God tell Abraham it would take to move?

When your family is getting ready to go somewhere, your parents probably like to be sure of the directions and exactly how long the trip will take. They may use an Internet map program, their GPS, or an app on their phone. Or they may pull out an atlas and figure out the directions and travel time for themselves.

Abraham, a Bible character also known as Abram, didn’t have that option. Not only were electronic maps unavailable, but God didn’t tell him where he was going! He just told Abraham, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.”

Like Noah, Abraham chose to believe God and step out in faith. He packed up his family, household goods, and animals and set out simply following God. That was a huge step of faith, and God rewarded Abraham for it. He chose Abraham to be the father of his special people, the Jews, also sometimes called the Israelites or the Hebrews.

It may have been easier for Abraham to stay where he was rather than move his family to an unknown place, but Abraham chose to follow God’s plan. Sometimes today it is easier for people to go their own way rather than listen to God and follow his leading, but when people do that, God can’t bless them as he blessed both Noah and Abraham.
