God created Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve had children. Then their children had children. As more people filled the earth, they began doing wicked things. It got worse and worse until one day God looked down from heaven at his creation, and everywhere he looked, people were disobeying him. They’d forgotten how to live in a way that would please God. This made God very sad.

Then God saw Noah and his family, like a light in the darkness. God decided to destroy the whole world and start over with Noah and his family. God asked Noah to build a boat that was 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. That was no easy job. There were no home improvement stores from which they could buy lumber and nails. Noah and his sons had to do it all by hand.

Building the ark wasn’t hard just because of the manual labor; it was hard because people were likely making fun of the Noah family. Noah insisted God was going to destroy the world with a huge flood, but people had never seen rain before. They didn’t believe Noah, and they thought he was crazy. But no matter what people said or did, Noah kept building the ark. He believed God, and his trust in God saved him and his family.

For You

Sometimes God might ask you to do things that are hard. You may have to stand alone at times. But, like Noah, you can obey God without knowing the end result. Just trust that the Lord knows what he’s doing and that things will turn out the way he plans.
