Another Miracle

The Israelites had their freedom, but Pharaoh was regretting the decision to let them go, so he went after them. As the Israelites journeyed toward the Promised Land, 600 war chariots swooped down on them. Other chariots followed. The Israelites were trapped between the mountains and the sea.

Even though the Israelites had seen the way God delivered them from Pharaoh once already, they were terrified. “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!” they said.

Moses told them, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

Moses was right. God had a plan. The Lord told Moses to hold his shepherd’s staff over the Red Sea. The sea divided, and God sent a strong wind to dry a path through the sea so the Israelites could walk right across! They had never seen anything like it. When the Egyptians tried to follow, Moses held his staff out again, and God let the water crash down on the enemy. Not one Egyptian survived.

God had once again delivered his people in a miraculous way—despite their lack of faith and their complaining. He continued to be with them during their journey, although they quickly forgot his miraculous works and grumbled often.

For You

At the first sign of trouble, the Israelites started to complain instead of remembering how God had delivered them from Pharaoh once already. When things go wrong in your life, remind yourself of all the things God has done for you in the past, and ask him to help you through the troublesome times.
