Your Bodyguard

He will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.

Psalm 91:11

HAVE YOU EVER looked at a photo of a rich or famous person or a political figure and noticed the people standing around him or her? Yes, celebrities are usually surrounded by throngs of admirers, but some of the people in the photo are probably bodyguards.

Bodyguards are professionals, often highly trained in areas such as protection, first aid, firearms, crowd screening and control, unarmed combat, and other skills. They also must have good hearing and eyesight and be attentive and observant. When on duty, a bodyguard has to be alert every moment.

Did you know that Christians have God-given bodyguards in this world? The Bible tells us that we are surrounded by angels who are protecting and watching over us. We may not see these angels, but there are many stories of believers who have experienced some problem or situation that reversed itself without explanation. They claim angels did it!

God has revealed in the Bible that angels have just that purpose. Hebrews 1:14 says they’re “servants.” Other passages refer to guardians and those who stand watch to protect us from evil. Today’s passage is direct about it. God “will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.”

Isn’t that a comfort? Doesn’t that thrill you? One day we shall all know and see exactly what those angels did for us. Although they’re invisible and often forgotten, don’t forget this truth: God promises many ways to protect us from our enemies, from evil, and from disaster. Although that doesn’t mean he won’t allow some things to occur for our growth and spiritual development, the promise is that he cares for us immensely. And so does that angel watching over you right now.
