Wait Quietly

It is good to wait quietly for salvation from the LORD.

Lamentations 3:26

AN OLD PASTOR suffered several major setbacks. He lost his retirement fund because the managers of it had made some bad investments. His wife died unexpectedly. And his son and daughter were simply too busy and too far away to come visit regularly. He could have spent many hours depressed and feeling sorry for himself. But instead, when people asked him what he would do now, he said, “I’m waiting.”

If they asked for more explanation, he referred to the verse above and spoke of how he waited “quietly for salvation from the LORD.”

Sometimes circumstances become so bad that you simply can’t do much to change them. It might be a sickness that has struck you down. It could be the loss of something you can never get back. It could be a fire that has burned down your house and destroyed all your possessions.

This is a not a time to do nothing. What you can do in such times is “wait quietly” for the Lord to do his part. His promise is that he will do it. All we have to do is trust and quietly look to him. One way or another, he’ll use your life for his glory.
