Treasure In Heaven

Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

AS WILDFIRES JUMPED the highway in San Diego, one family was awakened by pounding at the door. It was their neighbor, warning them to get out. Seconds later, as the family fled, the blaze nipped at their heels, even singeing the woman’s housecoat.

Wildfires, floods, tornadoes—it seems as if we’ve had more than our share of natural disasters the past few years. For many years, people have used this conversation starter at parties: “If you had only two minutes to get what you valued out of your house, what would you take?” And now more people than ever are not just contemplating that question but living it.

In our consumer society, it’s easy for all of us to get caught up with acquiring more and more possessions. This Scripture reminds us of the simple truth: possessions—no matter how cool—are temporary. A sudden twist of nature, and all the treasures we inherited or spent our precious money on are gone.

But the spiritual things we’ve stockpiled in heaven will remain forever, and they will never wear out or need to be fixed. Where’s your treasure?
