Thoughts

Thoughts

We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5

AS OF THIS writing, a great battle is surging in the theological arena. A number of atheists have published books that attack God, the Bible, Christianity, and God’s people. These atheists claim that the Bible is full of problems, that God himself is a nasty and ridiculous caricature, and that Jesus is a fraud.

One might be tempted to respond with reasonable arguments to these people. We might come up with statistics and so-called proofs from science or history or other sources. But what is the best weapon against these scorners? God’s Word.

Paul tells us in the Scripture verses above that he fights these kinds of lies with God’s weapon. What is it? His Word. While these people will knock down our closely reasoned treatises, what they cannot destroy is the power of God’s Word. It can penetrate their hearts in ways no amount of philosophy and legal proof can.

Trust God’s Word to speak to the hearts of even the most atheistic people. God promises you that his Word will achieve his purpose.
