The Grand Birth

The Grand Birth

A child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

TODAY, CHRISTMAS, IS for all Christians one of the great times to remember who Jesus is and why he came into the world. Look at the following titles for Jesus, and think of the ways he has ministered to you through those roles.

Wonderful Counselor. How many times has God’s counsel—from his Word, from others, from the still, small voice in your heart—kept you out of danger or from making bad decisions? Perhaps now is a good time to thank him for his wonderful guidance and presence.

Mighty God. Yes, Jesus was God in human flesh, and he is mighty. Back then he did miracles. He still does them today. He protects you. He has written your name on his hands. He has defeated and will defeat all your personal enemies. He loves you always.

Everlasting Father. Your relationship with Jesus is eternal. It won’t end; it cannot end. And undoubtedly, it will only get better and better with time.

Prince of Peace. Has he brought peace to your heart? Think of the many times you might have fallen apart, except that he was there, through the church, through friends, through the internal Comforter.

All these pictures of Jesus are great promises of his love and commitment to you. Why not worship him now as you remember the many great things he has done in your life this year? Relax and be at peace in the knowledge that the governing of every detail of your life is on his shoulders—so your burden is indeed light!
