Sun And Shield

The LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.

Psalm 84:11

WHEN KEVIN HUNG up the phone after calming a vendor who was angry about an account problem, his boss stepped over to his desk. “I thought I told you we aren’t paying the bill on that account until this customer fixes the problem on that machine we just bought.”

Kevin took a deep breath. “This was for something else, not that machine. I don’t think it’s right to withhold the money for that when we owe it for the other thing that has worked out fine.”

“Look, it’s the only way to do business with these shysters,” the boss seethed. “Call him back and tell him we aren’t paying a cent till they get the machine fixed.”

“It’s not right!” Kevin fired back. “How do you feel when someone owes you money and cooks up some scheme not to pay for the wrong reasons?”

The boss looked away. “Fine. Take care of it. But I’m warning you: this attitude you have about always doing the right thing won’t cut it in this business. Sometimes you have to play hardball.”

Have you ever been in a situation like that? Ever been chewed out, demoted, even fired for doing the right thing? Take heart in the words of today’s verse. God will bless you for your integrity. Just be patient while he takes care of the details.
