Spiritual Freedom

Under the old system, the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer could cleanse people’s bodies from ceremonial impurity. Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Hebrews 9:13-14

BLOOD IS VERY important in the scope of humanity. Why is so much emphasis put on blood? Because the life of all creatures is in the blood. Without blood, our bodies would die.

Why is blood so important to God? Perhaps it’s because life—both earthly and eternal life—is in the blood. It’s blood that nourishes our bodies, cleanses them, and keeps them healthy and functional. The shedding of Christ’s blood is the way we will be cleansed from all sin. When Jesus died for us, the offering of his blood was what cleansed us on the inside—spiritual blood that is applied to us by the Spirit when we believe in Christ.

The promise related to Jesus’ blood represents purity, hope, freedom, and fulfillment. Because Jesus gave his life and blood, we are cleansed of all sin and set free from its power over us. We are made new, into creatures that are holy and acceptable in God’s eyes. Because of Christ’s sacrifice, we will be given incorruptible bodies to live in heaven with him for eternity.

Jesus’ sacrifice makes this promise: when you believe in him, you are made righteous in God’s eyes because his righteousness is put in you. You no longer need to feel guilty over the sins of your past. You no longer need to wonder if you are going to “make it into heaven.” Because of Christ’s sacrifice and our belief in him, we are spiritually free and headed toward perfection in heaven.
