Praise Him
Praise Him
Sing to the LORD! Praise the LORD! For though I was poor and needy, he rescued me from my oppressors.
Jeremiah 20:13
WHY DO CHRISTIANS sing to God and praise him in church and elsewhere? It’s not because God needs the encouragement or the compliments. It’s not even because God just enjoys hearing our praise. Ultimately, it’s because God deserves that kind of response for all the good things he does for us.
Did you have a nice breakfast this morning? Why not praise God for the variety he gave you? Did work go well today? Did you solve a problem or two? Doesn’t the God who gave you your mind and ability to solve problems deserve more than a nod now and then? Did you come home to a family? If so, did they materialize out of nowhere? No. The Bible says they’re gifts from God to you because he loves you. Like Jeremiah, we’re all poor and needy in some area. But we praise even in time of need, confident that God is our provider.
God does not need, require, or demand our praise. He can get along quite well without it. But when you have a friend who gives you good gifts, don’t you say thank you?
God promises to bless us all through the day. Why not take a moment to bless him right now with a word of thanks or praise or a song of joy?
