Nothing Can Separate Us

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

DO YOU EVER fear that something or someone could separate you from God? That some atheist will come along and talk you out of your faith? That some terrible circumstance will make you lose your faith?

Look at the list Paul gives in these verses of things that cannot touch you. Neither death nor life can rip you away from God. Angels and demons are impotent against you. God will always be there. The fears of today and worries about tomorrow can’t fell you either. You have your roots deep in Christ. Nor can the powers of hell put a wall between you and God. God’s love is stronger than all of these.

Beyond these things, no power in the sky above or earth below can mess with you. God will see you through everything. In fact, Paul doesn’t want us to fear anything in creation. The only person we need to fear is God himself. And that kind of fear is really trust and awe because he promises to stick with us forever.
