No Disappointment
No Disappointment
This hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:5
CHRISTIANS FACE MANY disappointments in life, even as believers and followers of Christ. The Lord sometimes does not answer prayers we may consider the most important of our lives with a yes. While God tells us over and over that he has a plan for our lives, we may not always like the plan that unfolds. Tragedies and setbacks can seem to set us up for greater failures. The Christian life in the here and now can be difficult, painful, and frustrating.
Yet in the long run the Christian life is not a disappointment. Edward Smith, a nineteenth-century Wesleyan pastor, used to say he wanted “Satisfied in Jesus” written on his tombstone. He faced hard times and losses, as we all do in life. But Edward Smith saw things from the long view, and in that respect he could honestly say that God was good.
Refuse to look at the setbacks of the day as the final word from Jesus. Many times God plans to do things down the road that will thrill and fulfill you. His promise is that you will never be disappointed in him if you have faith.
