How To Find Success

Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 16:3

SUCCESS IS A popular topic in the world today. Whole shelves of books have been written about how to achieve success in business, success in your marriage, success in raising children, success in losing weight, and so on. People attend huge seminars in multiple disciplines to learn how to be known as “successful.” They think that if they follow a strict formula used by a successful person, they will find the key to their dreams and attain the happiness they deserve.

But these recipes for success have limited success in themselves, and they often leave us disappointed and disillusioned. As it turns out, we have to read only a single verse in God’s Word to attain the secret: “Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.”

So here’s the question: Are you willing to commit your actions to the Lord? Are you willing to behave in a way that’s obedient to his Word? Are you willing to do the things he asks you to do—and not do the things he’s asked you not to do? That’s the price you’ll need to pay if you want your plans to succeed as promised.

Committing our actions to the Lord isn’t easy—it requires sacrifice even to the point of killing our own will and desires (see Galatians 2:20). When we do, God brings success by blessing both us and others. And the great news is that committing to follow God’s plan will lead to much greater rewards than earthly success alone; it will lead to eternal life in heaven with our Creator. What could be more successful than that?
