Healing

O LORD, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!

Jeremiah 17:14

AFTER THE DOCTOR looked over Judy’s body, palpated various sites, studied her with his stethoscope and other instruments, and went over the scans with her, he finally sat down and said, “It is completely inexplicable. I’d say you’re entirely healed. No sign of the cancer. No sign of any disease. You’re as good as new.”

Judy breathed with relief as the doctor said, “I just don’t understand what happened.”

Nervously, she looked into her lap. “You won’t believe it when I tell you, but I prayed. I got every person I know praying, even on the Internet. My small group at church. Friends. Family. We prayed and didn’t give up. I guess all I can say is God, for some reason, chose to make me well.”

Opening a Bible she always carried in her purse, Judy read the above verse from Jeremiah. “I told God I wanted true healing, not just survival. I wanted to be healthy again. And he did it.”

While not all people are healed—God always reserves the right to do his will in his people—when God does heal, it’s often complete. God does use doctors to bring Christians back to health. But Christians who depend only on doctors and modern medicine are fooling themselves. God is the one who ultimately heals us physically and even emotionally. Seek him, and he will surely hear your pleas. Wait on him, and whether you end up whole in this world or perfect in the next, God will heal you.
