God’s Plans
God’s Plans
“I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
HOW MANY TIMES have you seen this verse on a graduation card or encouragement plaque? It’s a wonderful verse. However, most people don’t know the story behind the Scripture.
God was giving instructions to the Israelites. They had been conquered by the Babylonians, had been carried away to be slaves, and were now living in exile. He told them that although they would have to live in Babylon for seventy years, he would bring them back to their homeland. He assured them that although things looked bleak, he hadn’t forgotten about them and he still had good plans in store for them.
We, too, can take heart from this promise. God never guaranteed that our lives would be easy. But even when God allows difficulties to enter our lives, we can remember that he has a great future in mind for us. He has a plan that will bring good to us, not disaster.
Whether the road ahead is smooth or bumpy, remember that it leads to a positive future!
