God Will Never Forget

God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.

Hebrews 6:10

IN TODAY’S CULTURE, one of the lessons we learn early as children is that good work should be recognized. As babies, we receive praise every time we say a new word or take a new step. In school we’re regularly rewarded with good grades whenever we put in the effort required to earn them. As teenagers, our demonstrations of newfound responsibility are often matched by new privileges—such as driving the family car.

Sadly, this pattern often comes to a grinding halt when we reach adulthood and enter the “real world.” Most jobs come with a high standard of effort, and it seems like the only reward we get for meeting that standard is the privilege of keeping those jobs. Parents work diligently to love and support their children day in and day out—usually with little or no thanks.

Life can be a grind. Life can be tough. It can be an endless repetition of daily routines, and there are times when we just wish someone would notice how hard we’re working. Yes, there are days when even the smallest hint of praise or appreciation can lift us up and carry us smiling into tomorrow—but those are often few and far between.

Thankfully, mercifully, this will not always be so. God sees what we do. He sees the ways we love our neighbors and help those in need. He will reward us for the smallest of sacrifices. He greatly approves when we put aside our jitters and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ. And God has promised he will never forget.
