Fighting The Champ
Fighting the Champ
Put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.
Ephesians 6:13
FROM THE MOMENT David heard Goliath’s taunts and saw the Israelites cowering, he knew that this was a battle that had his name on it (see 1 Samuel 17). So on behalf of his people and God, David accepted the giant’s challenge. The king tried to deck David out with the very best armor in the land.
But it didn’t work. David wasn’t used to armor, and it was so heavy he couldn’t even move in it. Instead, he chose the simple weapons he was used to and trusted God to bring the victory, knowing it was the Lord’s battle. And sure enough, the battle was won!
Many times in life we’re called on to battle the enemy. But today’s Scripture verse gives us the advice that David also had to learn: when we’re fighting the Lord’s battles, we can win them only as we use the weapons he’s provided. Our own fleshly weapons will be ineffective in spiritual warfare. So we have to follow his directives. When we put on God’s armor, the different parts of our lives are covered. With his armor we experience his protection, and we are able to overcome the enemies of our souls.
Have you been trying to use your own weapons to fight your spiritual battles? Make sure you’re using the perfect weapons God has given you, not the heavy armor of the world.
