Christ Is God
Christ Is God
In Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.
Colossians 2:9-10
“YOU COMPLETE ME” was a theme in one movie a few years ago. The plot revolved around the hero’s realization that he did need the heroine in order to be a complete person.
It’s a lovely romantic thought. But this theory isn’t very practical in real life, and if we want to be sticklers, it’s actually theologically inaccurate!
Perhaps that’s one of the problems with our relationships. We expect others—a friend, a spouse, or even a church—to make us feel fulfilled. While all these relationships can bring great blessing, joy, and wisdom into our lives, none of them can give us ultimate fulfillment.
You might say our lives are like jigsaw puzzles with a “God-shaped” piece missing. God has created us to have fellowship with him and depend upon him. We have a space or void in our lives that only he can fill. We may look around trying to find another human, an organization, or possessions to complete us, but they’re only short-term fixes—and it’s not even fair to expect someone else to complete us. In fact, this passage states that Jesus is the head of all these things and supersedes them. Only he can bring that sense of fullness and satisfaction.
Are you looking for completeness in all the wrong places? Let’s look to Jesus to fill all our voids.
