At The Door

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne.

HAVE YOU EVER gone to a museum or castle and seen the thrones kings or queens once sat upon as they delivered their pronouncements?

The shah of Iran once sat on a “peacock throne.” This throne was a 6-by-4-foot platform supported by four golden feet. The name came from the shape of two peacocks behind the throne, their tails encrusted with sapphires, rubies, emeralds, pearls, and other precious jewels.

The kings of England sat on a chair made almost entirely of gold. Other thrones have featured encrusted jewels and intricately carved wood.

If earthly thrones can be so grand, just imagine what God’s throne must be like! The Bible speaks of the “great white throne” in Revelation 20. When Isaiah stood before God’s throne in Isaiah 6:1, it was “high and lifted up” (NKJV). Seraphim, an elite hierarchy of angels, gathered around it. God’s train was so huge it filled the Temple.

But as amazing as God’s throne is, this verse promises us that those who overcome sin and shallow commitment to become totally sold out for Jesus will actually sit on his throne with him.

Savor that for a minute. What a remarkable time that will be! But one day it will happen. That’s God’s guarantee.
