Your Walk, Your Testimony

When they see their many children and all the blessings I have given them, they will recognize the holiness of the Holy One of Israel. They will stand in awe of the God of Jacob.

Isaiah 29:23

My friend Kristen Jane Anderson lost both of her legs in a suicide attempt. When she was seventeen, Kristen lay in front of an approaching train, trying to end it all. But God saved her life, and He is now using her story to bring others to Him. After her attempt, Kristen dedicated her life to God, and now she glows with love for Him. People notice her physical condition, but they pay attention to her face even more. She is often asked, “What makes you so happy? Why do you have so much peace and joy?”

The Amish know that their “differences” will gain them attention, but their desire is that people will pay more attention to how they live for God than to how they live plain lives. An Amish parable discusses this very thing:

My dad orders his checks with a Bible verse printed on them. A few years ago he ordered several tons of coal and sent a check along with the neighbor man who was going to haul it home for us. The man at the coal mine looked at the check and remarked, “It should be all right. It has a Bible verse printed on it.”

We do not have Bible verses printed on us, but our plain clothes should be worn as a testimony to what we believe. Our words, actions, and dealings must correspond with our plain clothes, or it will not benefit us at all to wear them.

When people look at you, do they see a difference? Do they see something they want for themselves? Are they witnesses to your happiness, your joy, and your peace? Do they see Jesus in you?

We can have checkbooks with Bible verses, or we can wear Scripture T-shirts, but doing those things doesn’t matter as much as the testimony of how we live our lives. You may be the only Bible someone reads. Let the truth of Scripture radiate through your life!

Dear heavenly Father, when people look at me, may they see You most!
