Trust in His Supply

This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

“Life is messy,” my friend Teri wrote on her blog. “Dishes have to be done over and over. Laundry keeps piling up. Furniture needs dusting and floors need vacuuming. Babies need diapers and toddlers spill juice. Children bicker and tweens roll eyes. Spouses disagree. Exhausted and worn thin from emotions spilled over and giving pieces of ourselves to everyone in our lives, we mommas find ourselves drained, empty.”

Every time I think about how much work I do, I consider an Amish woman. The average Amish woman has seven children, cooks all the food, makes their clothes, and then has to keep up with the laundry and hang it out to dry!

An Amish man’s work is just as challenging. Whether he has a farm or works in a local factory, there is upkeep: animals to care for, a buggy to maintain, and at least one horse to tend to. Both Amish men and women must depend on God’s strength to carry them through the day.

More than that, much of Amish families’ livelihood comes from what they can provide for themselves. Amish crops and gardens are dependent on favorable weather, which again means trusting God.

According to Dictionary.com, trust is “confident expectation of something; hope.” Do you have trust that God will provide? Do you have trust that even though life is messy, God will give you the strength to tackle it? Do you trust that God will take care of all your needs, whether they involve good weather for your garden or extra money for an unexpected bill?

“Our God is not a faraway God, a character in a fairy tale,” my friend Teri continues. “He sees our needs, and He meets them.”

Do you have a need today? Jesus is able and willing to provide.

Dear heavenly Father, thank You for providing for all my needs through the glorious riches of Your Son, Jesus. Today, I lift my eyes beyond this messy world to You.
