Out of the Mouths of Babes

They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?” “Yes,” Jesus replied. “Haven’t you ever read the Scriptures? For they say, ‘You have taught children and infants to give you praise.’”

When one of my children was two, she often sang about the itsy-bitsy spider and other animal antics. She enjoyed Bible songs, too, and I found that was a great way to introduce her to the goodness of God throughout the day. The more she sang, the more she learned about God. And the more she learned about God, the more she would sing! “In der Stillen Einsamkeit” is a children’s song in Pennsylvania Dutch. Here are the words in English:

In the still isolation

See what a mighty Lord,

Summer and Winter He makes. My favorite part of this song are the words “You find my praise ready.” Is your praise ready? Do you wake up with a song of praise on your lips? Do you tune into hymns or praise music throughout the day and find yourself singing along?

Nancy Lee DeMoss writes, “Gratitude is learning to recognize and express appreciation for the benefits we have received from God and from others.” Our praise is ready when we take note of our benefits. When we consider that it is God who rules the seasons. And when we sing from the joy building within!

Children and infants give God praise because nothing they have is achieved by their own efforts. May we realize the same. And as we do, may we lift our voices in praise.

Dear heavenly Father, I am thankful—help me to be more thankful. And like a child, may I lift my voice in praise and gratitude to You!
