Let Those Who Glory

Let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord.

What do we boast about? There are things we are all proud of, and maybe we don’t speak them aloud or brag about them, but we do tend to make sure we bring them up in our conversations. In reality, there is only one thing that is worthy of our boasting—that we know the Lord. Not just know who He is, but that we also understand His character.

To boast about God—or give glory to Him—is to make others aware of Him. We naturally want other people to give us praise, but instead, we point a flashing neon sign in God’s direction. When we share God’s Word, we are also raising awareness of God’s truth. When we practice loving-kindness and live in unity with others, people see that God is the center of the union and the source of our unity. Our actions delight the Lord. The Ausbund says: “God’s commune, washed in the blood of Christ, is to be holy and pure. He who wants to be in it must purify himself by giving all that he has to be used for the glory of God. He gives to his neighbour as he has freely received. . . . Oh how pleasant it is in Jesus Christ where brothers live together in unity and have all their property in common!”

In what do you boast? To whom do you give glory? Anytime we practice the loving-kindness of God, we point to a goodness beyond ourselves. Are you making others aware of God’s Word? Of God Himself? As you do, you will offer the Lord much delight.

Dear heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I take personal credit for what You do through me. May any glory I receive be immediately lifted to You.
