Get Wisdom

Get Wisdom

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

James 1:5

If you could sit down with a young couple for thirty minutes on their wedding day, what would you tell them? What wisdom would you impart? To love God and each other? To find a good community? To surround themselves with like-minded people? To diligently train any children they may have to love God? To not get caught up in the trappings of the world? When we choose wisdom, everything in our lives—our relationships, our homes, and even our health—is affected.

Suzanne Woods Fisher writes,

The fastest growing population in North America, the Amish have held strong to enduring traditions for over four hundred years. They have a much lower rate of heart disease than do average Americans. Lower depression rates, lower cancer rates. They maintain one of the strongest and most stable family systems in our country. The elderly are highly esteemed, cared for in the home. Over 85 to 90 percent of the youth remain in the church, choosing baptism as young adults. The Amish . . . seem to be doing something right.

God’s wisdom will never lead us astray, and He never withholds it from us when we ask for it. God wants you to turn to Him—turn to His Word. The Amish are great examples of what it looks like to live in light of the wisdom that comes from above: “The wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere” (James 3:17).

How often do you ask God for wisdom? What would happen if you did so more often? Seek God and listen to Him speaking to you through His Word. You’ll be amazed at how the wisdom from the Word can improve every part of your life.

Dear heavenly Father, You created all things, and I know You can guide me in every detail of my life. I seek Your wisdom today.
