Faith That Shows

Faith That Shows

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

Romans 1:17

I love reading the Amish newspaper the Budget because it not only shares what is happening in the lives of the Amish but also explains much about their values and beliefs. Here is an excerpt of an update by Martha Zimmerman from Rutledge, Missouri:

This morning at 3:30 we had a rude awakening with Bertha telling us that Marietta had another “spell.” By the time we got over there she was okay, as they don’t last long at all, although her speech was a little slurred yet. But I know what we will be doing tomorrow, if our plans hold out. We will be running to a doctor somewhere to do blood tests or something. I’d really like to know what’s going on. We didn’t think we need this stress yet, but I guess we must take what’s given. Abe said we’ve made it through before, surely we will again this time. And so by faith and God’s grace we move on.

I’m not sure what was wrong with Marietta, but I can read the concern and weariness in Martha’s words. I’ve never met this family, but their faith and their commitment to one another shine through this passage.

How can this woman’s words be a testimony to you today? You don’t need to have all the answers to know that you will make it through to the other side of your problems. The middle of weariness and questions is a wonderful place to exercise your faith. And with God’s grace, you can continue to walk forward.

Faith carries us from start to finish. Faith pushes out fear. It centers our minds and our hearts on the One who is always with us, even when someone we love is hurting and when we don’t have answers. Faith makes life bearable. No, more than that, faith makes life hopeful.

Dear heavenly Father, there are so many areas in my life for which I have no answers. I thank You that faith gives me hope in You in the midst of my questions and concerns.
