Beautiful Seasons
Beautiful Seasons
God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
When a young man or woman decides to join the Amish church, he or she usually does so with a group of other young people. Once the bishop is informed of those desiring membership, instruction classes begin. The classes teach the foundations and Scriptures of their faith. Lessons begin in late spring and continue through the summer.
Baptism is an outward sign of an inward conviction to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to join the church. There comes a point in each of our lives when we must make the decision about Christ for ourselves. In the Amish church seasons come and seasons go, but with the coming of late spring, mothers and fathers pray that their young adult children will choose to do so this season.
The questions “Why do bad things happen to good people?” and “What happens after we die?” show that our souls yearn to know God, yearn for His redemption of ourselves and of this dying world. Job 5:9 says, “[God] does great things too marvelous to understand. He performs countless miracles.” Out of all of creation—the seas and skies, the fields and creatures—the most beautiful miracle is when humans, born into sin, choose God—choose to give up their own lives for God’s life and their own wills for God’s will.
How is God working in your life? It may be hard to see now, but if you’ve chosen to follow Jesus Christ, He has a good plan. Where is the beauty in your life? It may be outside the window as spring blooms. It may also be inside your heart, as hope blooms.
What choice is God asking you to make today? Do you need to find more instruction in the Scriptures? Do you need to join with friends to seek God together? God will be waiting for the moment you take another step toward Him.
Dear heavenly Father, thank You for putting eternity on my heart, and thank You for creating something beautiful in my life. Your work from beginning to end amazes me!
