Between You And God #17

Dear God, Sometimes I wonder if you even notice the good things I am doing—like going to church and reading my Bible even when I don’t feel like it.

When you get your very first job babysitting, you get paid right after the job is done. Did you watch the kids from twelve to three? At three, then, when the mom returns, she’ll pay you for three hours of work.

Your second job might be pet sitting while neighbors are away. Each day you’ll go in and check to make sure that the cat has food and water and that her litter box is clean. The owners might be gone for three to four days, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get paid. After they return, though, if you’ve done a good job, you’ll get paid.

Later, when you grow up, you’ll get a job working in a restaurant or a store or a doctor’s office, perhaps. Then, even though you’ll go to work every day, and work hard, you won’t get a paycheck for two weeks—or maybe even a month. You’ll be paid for a job well done long after you’ve done the job. Why will you keep working? Because you’ll know that the company you’re working for is honest. If they say they’ll pay you later for work done now, you know that they will. One day soon you’ll have a big check or a fat wad of cash to save, give, and spend!

Often when we do good, we see the reward right away. Sometimes we have to wait a little while—and sometimes we wait a long while! But we know that if we keep on doing the right thing, the Lord will reward us for our work. This payment isn’t always cash, but God knows how to reward us in millions of delightfully different ways, and believe it, he does.

Keep working hard—payday is coming!

Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9
