Stay Home And Change The World

Stay Home and Change the World

Karen

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

—Mark 16:15

When I was sixteen years old, I wanted to change the world. I’d just begun my relationship with God after being introduced to Him at a youth retreat. Soon afterward, I started attending a missions-minded church. They told stories of people in far-off lands who needed to hear about Jesus.

My plan was to someday go far away and help. Maybe I’d take clean water or medicine or teach others a new skill. But more than anything, I wanted to tell people about the gospel of Jesus, introducing them to the God I loved and the Bible I couldn’t put down. That was my plan . . . or so I thought.

Instead, today I work from home with a limited budget, a used computer, and yet an unchanged desire. I still want to change lives with the love of Christ. Thankfully, He’s shown me I don’t need to leave home to do that.

And you don’t either. We can change the world from our very own homes, in our very own neighborhoods. All we need is a desire to tell the good news and some means of connecting with others online. It’s an easy way to be part of the charge in Mark 16:15 to “go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” We women can band together to tell the world about Jesus by holding a local Bible study or women’s group or even by linking up with others online to share biblical content on a website or social media site.

The internet is a powerful entity. It can be used for evil, or it can be used to do great good. God is doing exciting things all over the world. If you can’t travel somewhere physically to help, you can still give of your time by praying for ministries and organizations that are having an impact on the world for good and for God. Or you can give financially, even if it just means selling some gently used clothing and accessories and then donating the proceeds to one such charity.

We might not be building wells to provide clean water, but we can give women stuck in sadness or sin hope of a life in Christ by partnering with an organization that spreads the gospel. We might not be dispensing medicine ourselves, but we can give financially and prayerfully to organizations that do or to those who point women to the Healer who can make their spirits whole.

Do you want to change the world by offering hope, help, and even life from your home? When we give our collective “littles”—from our own little homes—God transforms them into a big movement that will alter lives both now and for eternity.

Dear Lord, thank You for the countless blessings You give me every day. Food. Shelter. Family. Friends. Please take my little, transform it with Your touch, and use it to bring more people into Your kingdom as they experience and respond to the good news of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Take some time today to research some organizations and ministries that are making a lasting impact for God’s kingdom by spreading the gospel and meeting the physical needs of others. Look for ways to partner with them both financially and spiritually to help bring change in the world today.
