What God Has Joined Together
What God Has Joined Together
“Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
—Mark 10:9
When we were newly married, a mentor challenged me to always communicate with men in such a way that my husband could read every text, listen in on every phone call, read every e-mail, eavesdrop on every conversation and feel great. She encouraged me to communicate with men as though my husband was right there with us. That’s a great rule, and it’s served our marriage well.
Mark 10:9 says, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” What this means is that all of us, single or married, have a part to play in helping other people’s marriages.
The most seductive, cheap, easy belief is that it would be better with someone else. That’s a lie. You think the grass is greener with him?
The grass is greener where you water it.
The beauty you’re looking for, the adventure you’re craving, the love story you’re longing for—it’s the one you create in your own home. There is so much beauty and love and redemption and possibility in the marriage you’re already a part of. I know sometimes it doesn’t seem like it. But it’s true.
IS THERE anyone in your life whose marriage you’re not supporting, by the way you interact with either the husband or the wife? Would you honor that friend’s marriage best by bowing out of that interaction?
