Along The Way

Along The Way

Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Psalm 62:8

One night in Minneapolis, I asked the musician I was touring with how she felt about traveling and touring. She said she loved winning over a new audience, being charming for an evening. She didn’t like being home for long and was sometimes nervous and bored between trips. I felt just the opposite. I missed my friends and my family.

That night I got back to my room late after the last event. I sat on the hotel floor and ate a club sandwich and French fries and drank a glass of Chardonnay. I knew in some wordless way that I needed that sandwich more than a person should need a sandwich. I had to find a new way to live and a new way to nourish myself. When we eat, drink, shop, or watch TV for comfort, we never end up truly comforted. Along the way I’m learning that rest and relationships nourish me in a way a club sandwich never could.

WHEN YOU’RE in need of comfort, where do you turn? What would be a healthier choice?
