The Spirit Will Guide You

THE SPIRIT WILL GUIDE YOU

a prayer to open

Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

May your Kingdom come, may your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

There is so much more I want to tell you, but you can’t bear it now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, “The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.”

Jesus’ disciples were very concerned when he told them he was leaving them. After all, he was the most significant part of their lives, and they had given up everything to follow him. He sought to comfort them by telling them that he would ascend to be King and then the Holy Spirit would come to guide them. Jesus made good on this promise, as we know, and not long after he went to be with the Father and was enthroned as King, the Holy Spirit came upon all the believers. Today when we put our faith in Jesus, he sends the Holy Spirit to us, too, to guide and direct us into truth and help us love others.

God, fill me anew with your Holy Spirit. Give me an open heart and mind to all that your Spirit longs to transform in me, and grant me the strength I need as I seek to live for the sake of others. Amen.
