Love Seeks Second Place

LOVE SEEKS SECOND PLACE

Begin by quieting your body and mind, remembering you are in God’s loving presence. Open your hands to reflect with your body your desire for a heart that’s open to whatever he has for you today. Spend a minute in silence.

Reflect

Love calls us to submit to one another and hand over the spotlight. When we long for recognition and our desire to be first overwhelms us, love says, “Seek second place. Stand back. Let others go first.”

  • What relationships come to mind when you reflect on the refrain “Seek second place. Stand back. Let others go first”? Why? Ask God to help you understand what he might be inviting you to see or do.
  • How might handing over the spotlight or submitting to someone else cultivate humility in you?
  • What most frequently keeps you from seeking second place and rejoicing in the success of others?
Respond

Father, you are love. Jesus, you are love. Holy Spirit, you are love.

Shape me into the image of love, and lead me in the way of love. Amen.
