Love Rejects Revenge And Blesses
LOVE REJECTS REVENGE AND BLESSES
Begin by quieting your body and mind, remembering you are in God’s loving presence. Open your hands to reflect with your body your desire for a heart that’s open to whatever he has for you today. Spend a minute in silence.
Read Romans 12:9-21 (see page 250)
Reflect
Love calls us to reject revenge and extend blessing to our enemies and betrayers. When everything in us wants to punish, punch back, and pay back, love says, “No revenge, only blessing. Extend your hands and seek only good. Bless and seek the good of your enemies.”
- What relationships come to mind when you reflect on the refrain “No revenge, only blessing. Extend your hands and seek only good. Bless and seek the good of your enemies”? Why? Ask God to help you understand what he might be inviting you to see or do.
- How might blessing your enemies and seeking their good cultivate your desire and ability to forgive not only those enemies but others?
- What most frequently keeps you from praying for your enemies or releasing your desire for revenge?
Respond
Father, you are love. Jesus, you are love. Holy Spirit, you are love.
Shape me into the image of love, and lead me in the way of love. Amen.
