He Knows My Name

I have called you by name; you are mine.

Did you know that scientists believe that at the center of every galaxy is a supermassive black hole, which holds the galaxy in place? I learned that on the Science Channel when they ran a program on what we know about the universe. At one point the TV screen swirled with all these multicolored, multishaped, multigaseous galaxies. When my eyes took them all in, I felt as if my brain exploded with the wonder of how awesomely vast and ordered our universe is—and how awesomely vast and ordered our God is.

Just looking at the photos from space of other planets—and even our own!—shows us the creativity and power of the Creator God. Whenever I drive through the mountains or stand on the beach and watch the force of the waves crashing against the sand, I find myself in awe of how immense God is. And I worship Him.

I worship the Creator God for His creativity and power, but I also worship Him because this great big, omnipotent, invincible God who created supermassive black holes to hold together galaxies knows my name. And He knows your name.

In the midst of a busy schedule—creating new worlds, overseeing the earth’s entire population, handling the universe—He knows your name. Not only that, the God of the universe cares enough about you to number each hair that you have (see Luke 12:7). He knows every detail of your life. He calls you His.

So the next time you stand in awe at something in creation and are overwhelmed by how enormous and ordered and creative God is, you can rest in the knowledge that He’s sovereign. He has everything under control, He knows you and what you need, and He’s powerful enough to take care of those needs.

Creator God, You know my name! You know who I am—my strengths, my vulnerabilities, my joys, my sorrows, my fears, my successes. And You care about them all. Thank You that every day through creation You show me that You’re powerful enough to handle everything in my life.
