Dig a Little Deeper
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Joshua 1:8
Joshua was a leader with a big job ahead. He was in charge of leading the Israelites into their new home after they’d wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. He wasn’t in charge of just a few people. He was the leader of two to three million Israelites. Moses had led the Israelites through the wilderness, and now God had called Joshua to finish the work.
God didn’t leave Joshua without any guidance, though. He told Joshua to read God’s law continually, to think about it, and to obey it. If Joshua would do this, God would give him success in leading the people.
You aren’t a leader of millions entering a new land, but these instructions are for you, a princess of God, just as they were for Joshua, the leader of God’s people. The good thing is that you have God’s complete instruction manual for living as his princess in today’s world. Just as you study your math facts or a science chapter for a test, God wants you to study the Bible so you’ll know what it has to say to you. You can dig a little deeper into his Word. As you read through it, try to understand each verse. If you don’t, ask a parent to help you find a book or website that helps girls your age understand the Bible. Or maybe you and a parent or another adult could do a Bible study together. God didn’t tell Joshua to stop with just studying God’s laws. He told Joshua to think about God’s laws night and day so he’d be sure to obey them. After you read the Bible each day, spend some time thinking about it. During the day, ask yourself how it applies to you. Once you get into the habit of doing this, you’ll find yourself focusing more on God throughout the day and on how you can live as his princess.
Challenge a friend or your mom or sister to study the Bible with you. Get a Bible study book at your local Christian bookstore, or choose a book of the Bible to read through a few verses at a time. You might want to keep a journal so you can write down what you read, what it means, and how you can live it out daily.
