Created For A Purpose

Created for a Purpose

We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10

The Jetsons was a family cartoon that was first on television in 1962. The show, set in the future, featured George Jetson; his wife, Jane; their daughter, Judy; their son, Elroy; and the family’s dog, Astro, as they went about life in their space-age home and traveled in a flying car. There was even a robot maid, Rosie, to do the housework. At that time, a robot doing work seemed like something far in the future, but now that time is here. Recently a news article listed several jobs where humans might be replaced by robots. Those jobs included counting out pills and distributing them at a pharmacy, reviewing a legal document, driving a car, cleaning a space station, being a soldier in combat, babysitting and entertaining kids, and rescuing victims who are trapped after an earthquake or tornado. These robots were created with a specific purpose in mind, and their creators gave them what they needed for the job they were meant to do.

You aren’t like those robots, because you can think and reason. But just as robots were created to do a job, God created you for a specific purpose. There is something he wants you to do with your life. The psalmist said, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!” (Psalm 139:16-17). You should never feel as if you, or any other person, were an accident. God doesn’t make mistakes. He has a purpose for each person.

God calls you his masterpiece. Because you are his princess, you are able to fulfill the purpose he planned for you before you were born. As you follow God daily, you’ll discover that purpose. It’s a plan only you can fulfill. So don’t hesitate, and don’t be a spectator in life. Step out and follow the path God shows you. You can be confident that you have been created for a purpose and for making a difference in your world.

Read Psalm 139. Jot down the things the psalmist says God did for him. How do these promises apply to you personally? Thank God that they are true for you, too.
