Rainy Days
Rainy Days
GOD OF THE WEATHER, this morning I peered out my window to see gloomy showers. It’s another gray day, and I am grumpy. How I long to gaze at a clear blue sky and experience the warmth of sunshine. Why another dreary day, Father?
And yet when I think about it, your Word describes rain much differently. The land where your Son, Jesus, ministered was a dry place, and people were often longing for the seasons that brought downpours—showers of blessing. The need for rain was a physical reality that demonstrated the desperate spiritual thirst inside everyone Jesus encountered—including us. Jesus, the biggest thirst-quencher of all time, stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”
Lord, as I step over puddles today, help me to be grateful for your provision of water that I am presently enjoying—in abundance! Thank you that you are the Fountain of Life. Thank you that you are eager to quench my thirst. Amen.
