Friendship

Friendship

DEAR LORD, friendship is a special gift that I sometimes take for granted. There are so many lonely people in the world, yet over the years you have blessed me with many friends. Some are acquaintances, while others I hold close to my heart. But each friendship is refreshing in its own way.

You’ve told us that your Son, Jesus, is a friend of sinners, and I am grateful for that distinction. I am a sinner, and I surely need the friendship of Jesus. He was human and lived on earth just like me, so he is able to understand what that is like. Yet he is very God of very God, and he offers to help me with his divine power. Lord, may my relationship with you be reflected in the way I live. May my words be full of kindness and truth. May I be a faithful, trustworthy friend—ready to listen, ready to serve, and ready to encourage. Thank you for your friendship, which is the most cherished friendship of all.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
