Matthew 10:32-33

Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

These verses feel heavy and provoke accountability, don’t they? Yet Jesus spoke them to his disciples to encourage them just before they went out to share about Jesus throughout their land. These words also apply to each of us who have chosen to follow Jesus. It’s easy to sidestep conversations about our faith, but God calls us to “shout from the housetops for all to hear” (Matthew 10:27) the Good News that Jesus died for our sins. If this command from Jesus feels difficult, remind yourself of the reward—Jesus promises to acknowledge you before God for proclaiming your faith. It is worth the cost.
