Everything Changes
Everything Changes
People are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the LORD. And so it is with people. The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.
Isaiah 40:6-8
Your eternal word, O LORD, stands firm in heaven.
Psalm 119:89
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Hebrews 13:8
Styles change. Cultures change. Governments change. Scientific theories change. People change. Sometimes it seems like the only thing we can be sure of is that everything changes. But there is one thing that has never changed and will never change: the Word of God.
The gospel never changes. The way it’s communicated might change, but the essential Good News that God saves sinners will never change or disappear. God’s plans for this world will not change. His character will not change. Jesus will not change. His power over the universe will not fade, and his love for us will not grow cold. Styles of music may change and styles of preaching may change, and Bible versions may change to keep up with current language, but God’s Word will never change. Christians may be harassed or persecuted, but God’s Word will never go away. The gospel may be attacked, but it cannot be robbed of its saving power. The Bible can be misquoted and misused, rejected and ridiculed, but it cannot be corrupted.
We are unreliable, unsteady, and inconsistent. Even our good intentions come and go. We collapse under the heat of criticism and crumble underneath the weight of problems. But we have something solid and durable and dependable to build our lives on: the Word of God.
