Do You Have A Guardian Angel?

Do You Have a Guardian Angel?

He will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.

Psalm 91:11-12

Angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.

Hebrews 1:14

Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me, and he said, “Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.”

Acts 27:23-24

Lots of people like to think they have a guardian angel protecting them. Whenever they narrowly avoid an accident or life-threatening situation, they say their guardian angel must be looking after them. But is it their guardian angel who’s taking care of them, or someone else?

Throughout Scripture we find angels personally involved in protecting God’s people in times of great need. When they minister to people, it’s because God has directed them to do so. Our God uses his awesome power in compassionate, loving ways to help us when we’re hurting or in trouble.

The Bible never says to pray directly to angels for help. And there are no instances in Scripture of people even asking God to send an angel to protect them. The only instance in Scripture of someone trying to persuade someone else to seek help from an angel was Satan, who quoted Psalm 91 about angelic protection while tempting Jesus in the wilderness.

We are grateful for angels and how they help us, but when we focus only on angels and what they can or cannot do, it takes our focus off Jesus. As we think of guardian angels watching over us, we have to be sure to keep our eyes on the one who sent them—to put our trust in God, not angels.
