Withhold
Withhold
The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
I’D BEEN FEELING FRAZZLED and didn’t want to admit it to anyone, not even myself. For several days I’d rushed around, feeling hurried and disgruntled. I snapped at my kids and husband as I tried to cross things off the mental list of things to do in my mind that never really went away. With deadlines looming, I was feeling the stress as I sat down for a chunk of time to write.
During the middle of my session, a message came through on my phone from a woman who is an acquaintance. “I have a playlist called His Presence on my Spotify,” she wrote. “And I prayed for you and your book and cowriters this morning while listening to this. I wanted to send these four songs to you. Soak in his presence. He knows just what you need. He will not withhold from you.”
As her words came across my screen, I stopped what I was doing, and tears came to my eyes. I took a deep breath as the truth of what she said resonated in my spirit. I turned on one of the songs she sent and sat quietly while I listened. The lies that’d been hiding just below the surface, telling me that I wasn’t capable of completing the work, began to rise, and in the light of God’s truth, were exposed for what they were. Just lies. Replaced with the reminder that God would not withhold from me. As peace began to replace the fear, I started to write, trusting that God would give me the wisdom that I needed.
So often we can find ourselves living with far less than God would desire for us, not seeing or asking for what we really need. But God is not going to withhold himself from us. When we need peace, love, or wisdom, he is there. We can live lives filled with the fruit of his Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, and more—not because of what we can conjure up within ourselves, but because of the great abundance that God has to offer us.
Lord, thank you that you do not withhold from us. Help us to ask for what we need and believe that you will be there to offer it to us. Amen.
