In God We Trust

In God We Trust

Why does your country have laws?

Of all the laws in your country or state, which do you find the most difficult to abide by?

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.

ROMANS13:1–2

God is our first authority. Everything we think, do and say should be in line with what he wants us to think, do and say. At all times, we are supposed to obey God.

But because we live here in this world, we also have human leaders. These leaders create rules that we are expected to obey. As long as these laws do not ask us to sin, then God wants us to honor him by honoring them.

If we truly believe God is in control, then we know that he has placed us where we are, under the authority of that leadership, for a reason. Obeying our leaders and their laws helps us learn to trust God. It’s also one way for us to demonstrate to others that we do trust God.

PRAYER

Dear God, we pray for our leaders. Please give them strength and wisdom. Please also help us to honor you by obeying the laws that our leaders have created. Amen.
