All Over The World

All Over The World

What would you like to be famous for?

What do you think life was like for the early Christians?

Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.

Romans 16:19

Laura was a quiet woman who lived in a small town. She was very busy at home, taking care of her children and animals and tending her garden, so she didn’t even go out much. Yet everyone knew that Laura was a Christian. Even though most people in the town didn’t know her personally, everyone knew that she lived for the Lord. And when there was a crisis, when someone was sick and dying, or abused and scared, or grieving and confused, they came to Laura’s door.

Paul opens his letter to the Romans by telling them, “Your faith is being reported all over the world” (Romans 1:8). Sixteen chapters later, he uses the verse above to help close his letter. Obviously, the believers in Rome had a widespread reputation for faith and obedience.

Word travels. Obedient believers attract attention. As followers of Jesus, we are not supposed to blend in with the world around us.

PRAYER

Dear God, thank you for the Bible. Please help us to be obedient to your Word. Amen.
